Sonepur Police seized counterfeit notes worth Rs 8.47 lakh during a late-night vehicle check at Block Chhak, Sonepur district, in a major crackdown.
Acting on suspicion, police intercepted a car that was reportedly moving under suspicious circumstances. Upon thorough inspection, officials recovered 1,695 counterfeit Rs 500 notes from the vehicle. Two persons were immediately taken into custody in connection with the case.
According to police sources, the accused hail from Jajpur and Nayagarh districts. During preliminary interrogation, the duo allegedly confessed to procuring the fake currency from Bargarh district and distributing it across various locations.
